Abstract
817,769. Hop-picking machines. HINDS, G. A. Dec. 30, 1957 [Sept. 28, 1956], No. 29749/56. Class 6(3). A hop-picking apparatus comprises a pair of feed-rotors arranged above a plucking mechanism 15, each rotor comprising a number of resilient blades 10 spaced around and along a shaft 11, the rotors being arranged so that each blade 11 on one rotor closely approaches a blade on the other rotor for a short period during each rotation thereby gripping the hop-bine laterals fed by the rotors during the plucking operation. The feed-rotors comprise rubber blades which are bonded to the shafts 11, the rotors being mounted beneath a cowl 12. The laterals to be stripped are fed by rollers 14 and rear feed-rotor is at a slightly higher level than the forward rotor, to assist the reception of the laterals. The stripping means comprise rotors 15 similar to those described in Specification 769,559. The plucked flowers fall on to an upwardly-moving belt 16 down which they roll, leaves being carried upwardly. The flowers and laterals then fall on to a succession of plucking rollers (not shown) driven at increasing speeds, which separate any remaining flowers from the laterals.
