Abstract
817,316. Spray-producers. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Nov. 12, 1957 [Nov. 19, 1956], No. 35187/57. Class 69 (3). Apparatus for the atomization and electrostatic transportation and deposition of paint comprises coaxial cups 10, 11, means for continuously supplying paint to the inner surfaces of each cup, means for rotating them about their axes so that the inner cup has a higher rotational speed than the outer one, the speeds being sufficient to atomize the paint by centrifugal action, and means for electrically charging the atomized paint particles. The apparatus includes a metallic casing 12 which, together with the cups, is charged to a high potential, and an air motor in the casing drives a shaft 21 which carries gears 22, 23. Gear 22 drives a gear 24 secured to a hollow shaft 25 connected to the inner cup, and the smaller gear 23 drives a gear 26 on a bushing 27 connected to the outer cup. Paint is fed through a conduit 28 and is led to the cups through outlets 29 and 30. The edges of the cups may be sharp or rounded. Compressed air is employed to interrupt and re-establish paint flow.
