Abstract
<PICT:0710920/III/1> <PICT:0710920/III/2> <PICT:0710920/III/3> <PICT:0710920/III/4> In a method of electrostatically coating a article wherein a liquid coating material is atomized from an atomizing head under the influence of electrostatic forces to form a spray of liquid particles and such particles are electrostatically deposited on an article while still in liquid state to form a coating thereon, the head is rotated as the liquid coating material is atomized therefrom. Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 shows the articles to be coated 10 passing along conveyer 11 and being sprayed from applicator 14, with coating material carried from tank 15 by compressed air from supply lines 17. The applicator is shown in detail in Fig. 2. Air pressure is applied to orifice 119 thus working air motor 101 and driving gears 102, 103 which rotate atomizing head 100. The coating material passes through duct 110, to ducts 114, 115, 116 and hence to the edge 118 of the rotating head. Modifications in which the liquid flows along ducts 214, Fig. 3, and along spirally grooved ducts 311, Fig. 4, are also described.
