 EMI1.2
If the field has been conducted, the components are separated from one another by its effect. In general, the liquid component evaporates, while the solid component falls in the form of fibers or grains. According to the present invention, this method is applied to the production of silk-like, shiny spun fibers by exposing sticky solutions to the action of convective discharge currents. As a

In the accompanying drawings, FIG. 1 shows, partly in view, partly in section, a form of apparatus for carrying out the method, FIG. 2 shows the feed device on a larger scale in section. 3 shows a modified form of the feed device in the same way. 4 shows a further modification, FIG. 5 shows a view corresponding to FIG. 1 of a collecting reel of a feeding device and the electrodes for convective discharge with a modified arrangement of the feeding device and the electrodes with regard to their relative position.

It is best to apply a collodion solution such as that used for healing purposes. that has evaporated to half of its volume. Excellent fibers are obtained with this. but it has been found that fiber formation is further improved if about five percent by volume of benzene is added to the above-mentioned evaporated solution and mixed well. In this way the speed of drying and hardening seems to be reduced in a slight degree, and so the possibility of the fibers is lost. to thin and stretch under the attractive and repulsive electrical effect, and thus to bring about a reduction in the fiber cross-section.

J is a tube made of glass or other materials, which ends at its mouth in a small nozzle, which allows the liquid to flow out in a free and thin stream
