Process for softening natural and artificial rubber
It is known that in the production of rubber mixtures, the rubber on
Softeners can be added to the roller to avoid mixing in fillers
to facilitate and to the rubber with a lower expenditure of energy in one
To transfer a state of higher plasticity, because then the mixtures are calendered better
and can be injected. The number of known emollients is extraordinary
great. Your chemical and. physical properties differ greatly from one another
and the side effects besides the actually emollient are accordingly
Effect very different. The disadvantage of these agents is that in general
a reduction in the strength of the vulcanizates occurs as a result of their addition.
Efforts to make emollients available to the chewing soup industry
to ask, which in addition to their actual purpose, the introduction of the fillers
to make it easier to improve the physical properties of the vulcanizates as much as possible
or at least not diminish, have already in many cases become usable products
guided. Almost without exception, these are based on fats, fatty oils and fatty acids
of vegetable, animal or mineral origin, their procurement more
or less depends on the import of the corresponding raw materials.
Mischt man
It has now been found that the distillate that is used in the smoldering
of pome fruit residues, excellent properties of an emollient
shows. These residues are obtained, for example, in the production of apple,
Pear and grape must and are commonly referred to as marc. Further fall
they are used in the production of jams and brandy from stone fruits, such as B. Cherries
and plums, on. This distillate is a thick to solid mass,
which has a paste-like consistency at room temperature and at about 70 ° C
becomes thin. It dissolves easily in acetone.
If you mix
this substance on the roller in natural or synthetic rubber shows
it has a clearly emollient effect, so that the fillers are much easier to remove
Rubber are absorbed and the whole mass is now better on the calender
or can be processed in the hose machine. The softener has, moreover
the advantage that it is eagerly absorbed by the rubber in contrast to others
Commercial plasticizers, which are initially repelled by the rubber.
If a mixture prepared in this way is vulcanized in the usual way, it is
it is established that even small additions of softeners produce a very flexible vulcanizate
is achieved without the other physical values, such as tensile strength,
Hardness and tear resistance suffer as a result. Dmese great extensibility or, differently
in other words, the very low modulus at 200% elongation is of great practicality
Importance because this property goes hand in hand with great resistance to fatigue.
So have z. B. Mixtures for car treads made in this way
are, in practice, much higher wear resistance than those that have a higher
Have module, d. H. which are less & similar.

so erhält man nachstehende physikalische Eigenschaften.

The product also has the advantage that it is obtained from raw materials that are not imported. Example The distillate that distills over when apple pomace is charred at 32o to 39o ° is added to a polymer made of butadiene on the roller; in addition, fillers and vulcanizing agents are added. this gives the following physical properties. For comparison, the results of a mixture are also listed which contain spruce tar as a softener instead of the distillate made from apple pomace: Mix mix

The figures clearly show that the replacement of spruce tar by the distillate from apple pomace surprisingly increases the outflow rate of the mixture, while the other physical data are practically unchanged.
