Abstract

817,301. Ventilation. PETERSEN, G. C. WERNER-. Jan. 23, 1957, No. 2512/57. Class 137 A ventilation system, e.g. for a ship, comprising a blower 10 and a ventilation trunk, or trunks, V interconnected by a regulating duct 5 provided with a pair of dampers 1a, 1b is characterized in that the dampers are hinged in the regulating duct in such a manner that in one extreme position each damper closes an aperture 3a or 3b in the side wall of the duct and in the other extreme position a wall, or partition, in the duct is formed so as to enable the direction of flow of the airstream to be reversed from exhaust to supply without reversing the direction of rotation of the blower. The blower 10, of the non-reversible centrifugal type, is connected by a resilient joint 9 to the regulating duct 5, the apertures 3a, 3b being in the form of louvred exhaust and fresh air inlet openings respectively. The dampers 1a, 1b, pivoted at 2a, 2b beneath the apertures 3a, 3b can be swung into one position, indicated in full lines, Fig. 1, so that fresh air is drawn through the inlet opening 3b into the blower 10 which, with the exhaust opening blocked by the damper 1a, delivers fresh air to the trunk V. In an alternative position, shown in broken lines, Fig. 1, the damper 1b closes the inlet opening 3b, the blower 10 in this case, drawing vitiated air from the duct and delivering it to the open exhaust 3a. In a mcdification, Fig. 4, a third damper 1c is pivoted at 2c to wall 8 beneath the blower 10, so that with the damper 1c arranged parallel and alongside, either the damper 1a, or 1b the trunk V can be exhausted of, or supplied with, air respectively as previously described in respect of the embodiment shown in Fig. 1. As shown in Fig. 4, the lower edge of the damper 1c is positioned to meet a partition 7 which divides the duct into two channels B1, B2 the air in this case being recirculated in a closed circuit. The dampers 1a, 1b, 1c can be interconnected for movement in unison.
