Abstract

816,102. Gear-cutting. WEATHERLEY OILGEAR Ltd. Oct. 25, 1955 [Nov. 9, 1954], No. 32446/54. Class 83 (3). A surface-broaching machine comprises at least one pair of broaching tools 5, 6 secured to a bar 4, the teeth of the tools being oppositely directed so that the work 7 is broached on forward and reverse movements of the bar. In a vertical machine, on the up-stroke, the tool 5 takes a roughing cut, and on the down-stroke the tool 6 takes a finishing cut to produce three teeth on wheel rim 7. The tool slide 4 is reciprocated, and the work-slide 8 moved transversely between cuts, by hydraulic means 3, 10, 11. The slide 8 is clamped in position by hydraulic toggle clamps 12. The work is carried on the slide 8 by a table 13 supported on a thrust bearing 14 and indexed, as the table reciprocates, by a cam 17, co-operating with a table-rotating lever 16, and a locking bolt 18 operated by a cam 20. The table is clamped between movements by hydraulically operated clamps 21, 22.
