935,101. Broaching; making connecting- rods. WEATHERLEY OILGEAR Ltd. July 14, 1961 [July 18, 1960], No. 25017/60. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (3). A surface broaching machine comprises means 15, 16 for shifting a work-table 13 to present more than one face of a workpiece successively to a set of tools on a broach bar 4. The hydraulic devices 15, 16 move a connecting- rod blank 14 towards or across the broach bar under the control of a punched card or pegged-cylinder programming apparatus, which alternatively may operate electric or mechanical means for moving and locking the worktable. Tools 5, 6 broach faces 2 in four strokes, the blank being withdrawn on the idle strokes. Tools 7, 8 then broach the surfaces 3. Tools 9, 11 part the two portions of the rod on one side and tools 10, 12 complete the machining operations.
