815,470. Contacting gases with liquids. AJEM LABORATORIES Inc. July 13, 1955 [July 19, 1954], No. 20278/55. Class 55 (2). Gases are contacted with liquids in apparatus having a casing 10 with a gas inlet 26 and a rotating cage 60 supplied with water from the base of the easing by a pump 22, the cage 60 sprays incoming gases with a fine spray of liquid and this is followed by a second and coarser spraying from a spray pipe 70 to coalesce fine droplets of liquid, the gases then pass upwardly through excess moisture removing plates 17 to an outlet 28. A baffle 36 is provided adjacent the inlet 26 and liquid to the spray pipe 70 is supplied by a pump 64 from the base of the casing. In a modification, liquid may be supplied to the rotating cage by a central perforated pipe, the perforations at the upper end of the pipe being larger to provide a coarser spray, the spray pipe 70 in this case being omitted. Perforation of an intermediate size may be provided in a middle portion of the perforated pipe. In a further modification the perforated pipe is provided internally with orifice plates and the perforations are of a uniform size provided with bullet-shaped deflectors.
