Abstract

814,895. Gun mountings for aircraft. FOLLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd., and PETTER, W. E. W. July 23, 1956 [July 21, 1955], No. 21190/55. Class 4. [Also in Group XXI] An aircraft gun is mounted between the fuselage wall (not shown) and the fairing 13 of a forward-facing scoop-type air intake 14 with its muzzle aimed forwardly through the lip 15 where the front of the fairing meets the outer edge of the intake opening. The barrel 16 of the gun is surrounded by a first pressure chamber 18 extending forward of its muzzle and situated behind a second pressure chamber 23 ; the chambers 18 and 23 being vented to the atmosphere at their sides 26 and/or rear 22 and having convex baffles 20 and 24 at their front ends with holes to allow the passage of the bullet. The blast chamber may be further raised forward of the second chamber 23 as at 25.
