Abstract

814,761. Glass compositions; glazes. HARSHAW CHEMICAL CO. Sept. 24, 1956 [July 5, 1956], No. 29168/56. Class 56. A ceramic pigment composition or glaze con-' sists of the oxides of zirconium, tin, silicon and vanadium, the oxides of Zr, Sn and Si being present in the relative parts by weight indicated as falling within the area banded by lines AB, BC, CD and DA, i.e. ZrO2 25-94, SnO2 1-60, SiO2 5-74, and the U2O5 is from 0À75 per cent.-9 per cent. by weight of the other oxides. Preferred composition falling within area bounded by lines EF, FG, GH, HE and with V2O5 from 1 per cent. -5 per cent. The vanadium may be added in the form of ammonia vanadate, or sodium vanadate, but excess alkali is avoided to maintain the colour. The mixture is calcined at temperatures from 1200‹C. to 1500‹C.
