Abstract
The invention relates to complex compounds of streptomycin, dihydrostreptomycin, neomycin and "Viomycin" (Registered Trade Mark), or salts of these antibiotics, with pantothenol or a mono-, di-, or tri-ester thereof with an inorganic or organic acid. The complex is produced by reacting one mol. of the antibiotic with one mol. of the pantothenol or its ester. The reaction is operated preferably in the presence of a solvent or suspension means such as water. Examples describe the preparation of (a) streptomycin sulphate-pantothenol, (b) dihydrostreptomycin sulphate-pantothenol, (c) Viomycin sulphate-pantothenol, (d) neomycin sulphate-pantothenol, (e) a mixture of pantothenol and the dihydrostreptomycin sulphate-pantothenol complex, (f) a mixture of dihydrostreptomycin sulphate and the dihydrostreptomycin-sulphate pantothenol complex, (g) a mixture of dihydrostreptomycin sulphate and the dihydrostreptomycin sulphatepantothenol mono-acetic acid ester.ALSO:An antibiotic composition is produced by admixing 1 mol. of the basic antibiotic streptomycin, dihydrostreptomycin, neomycin or viomycin, or a salt of this antibiotic, with 0.5 to 3 mols. of pantothenol or a mono-, di-, or triester of pantothenol with an inorganic or organic acid. The mixtures may be prepared in the absence or presence of a solvent or suspension means such as water. The composition comprises a complex of the antibiotic with the pantothenol or ester (see Group IV (b)) with excess of one or other of the reactants. Examples disclose (a) a mixture of pantothenol and the dihydrostreptomycin sulphate pantothenol complex; (b) a mixture of dihydrostreptomycin sulphate and the dihydrostreptomycin sulphate pantothenol complex; and (c) a mixture of dihydrostreptomycin sulphate and dihydrostreptomycin sulphate pantothenol mono acetic acid ester.
