Abstract
814,209. Vaporizing liquefied gases. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A. G. Oct. 5, 1956 [Oct. 10, 1955], No. 30498/56. Class 8(2). [Also in Group XXVI] Vaporization of liquefied low boiling point gas, e.g., ethane is effected by heat exchange with the vapour of a gas of higher boiling point e.g. propane in a condenser in which the propane is condensed and is then raised to a higher pressure by a pump 5, forced thereby through a vaporisor 3, a superheater 4, and a turbine 2 performing work and back to the condenser 1 thus performing a closed cycle. The vaporizor 3 is heated by warm dry air. In a modification liquefied methane is vaporized in two exchangers in series traversed by gaseous ethane and propane respectively each of which performs a close cycle as described above. In a further modification vaporized methane has its temperature raised from 0‹ to 200‹C. and is then expanded from 60 to 1 atmosphere pressure in a turbine performing work.
