Abstract
1,054,489. Gas liquefaction process. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd. May 7, 1965 [July 15, 1964], No. 19328/65. Heading F4P. Compressed gas, e.g. natural methane, is cooled to liquefaction temperature in heat exchangers 2, 3, 25, 26, 28 traversed by propane and ethylene refrigerants and the liquid methane is divided into a minor stream 27 and into a major stream 1 which latter is further cooled in exchangers 31, 32, 33 traversed by ethylene expanded at a valve 35 into a first flash drum 36, further expanded at a value 39 into a second flash drum 38 and vapour withdrawn from drums 36, 38 is used in exchangers 41, 46 to cool part of the minor stream 37 prior to said part being expanded at values 43, 47 into drums 36, 38 whilst the remainder of the minor stream 37 is cooled in an exchanger 48, expanded at a valve and added to the liquid methane leaving drum 38 and prior to further cooling in an exchanger 51 traversed by evaporating liquid methane from stream 1 having been expanded at a valve 52 and the liquid leaving exchanger 51 is finally expanded at a valve 53 into a storage container 54 at atmospheric pressure. Boiloff gas from container 54, together with gas from exchangers 41, 46, are recompressed, a portion withdrawn as fuel gas whilst the remainder is returned to the inlet of the apparatus.
