Abstract
814,140. Photographic process and product. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. June 20, 1956 [July 22, 1955: Jan. 20, 1956], No. 19072/56. Class 98(2) The process is effected by spreading aqueous fluid between a pair of spaced apart rigid sheets by capillary action from one end thereof, and the product comprises such sheets pivotally mounted at one end for superposition in spaced apart relation, with the aqueous fluid such as to develop a visible print from a silver halide salt, usually a positive on one of the sheets by transfer-reversal, but applicability with ferric salts, diazonium compounds and dichromated gelatin is referred to. At least one of the sheets may be transparent and they may be separated after production of the print or left superposed to protect the print. As described with reference to drawings the fluid is carried in a container therefor, thus in Figs. 1, 3, sheets 12, 14 provided respectively with silver halide stratum 20 and silver precipitating stratum 22 are spaced apart by spacer strips 28 and held in position by elements 16, 18 with side wall sections 24 engaging ridges 26 of the sheets. Retaining element 16 is formed with chamber 36 within which is container 38 of fluid 40, the container being closed at the left by plug 42 and provided at the right with end portion 46 which may be pulled manually to release the fluid 40 and allow its spreading by capillarity; and retaining element 18 has a passage 30 open at its ends for escape of air and to provide a reservoir for excess of fluid. In Fig. 4 sheets 122, 124 both described as transparent carry respectively the strata referred to above and are mounted on frames 126, 128 pivotally connected at 130, whereby superposition with aid of spacers 152 may be effected and container 136 releases the fluid through rupturable mouth 140 during superpositioning.
