Abstract
813,654. Ball &c., mills. PODMORES (ENGINEERS) Ltd., and PODMORE & SONS Ltd., W. Nov. 11, 1957 [Nov. 14, 1956], No. 34752/56. Class 59. A grinding mill in which a pan or container for grinding media and the material to be processed is flexibly mounted and has connected to its means serving to impart to it a rotational vibration about an approximately vertical axis with an upward and downward component in the rotational movement. As shown, a pan 10 containing grinding balls 20 is mounted upon three inclined springs 13 spaced 120 degrees apart, the upper ends of the springs being secured to a plate 12 while their lower ends are anchored to a base 14. The springs may be leaf springs, as shown, or of coil or other type. The vibrator unit is of the electromagnetic type comprising a magnet 15, coil 16 and armature 17, supported centrally on lugs 18 upstanding from the base 14. The vibrations may, alternatively, be obtained by means of a rotatable out-of-balance weight e.g. a flywheel, or by means of a hydraulic or pneumatic vibrator. The pan is made of rubber or similar flexible material fitted within a steel or other shell 11.
