Abstract
814,344. Roller briquetting presses. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A. G. Feb. 22, 1957 [Feb. 23, 1956], No. 6039/57. Class 87(2). A press for briquetting ores, coal &c. comprises a pair of rollers 17, 18 geared to rotate in opposite directions and a distributing box 35 with an aperture 43 above the pair of rollers, the distributing box being associated with a vibration generator which sets it in vibration primarily in the vertical direction. As shown in Fig. 4, the bottom 40 only of the distributing box is connected to the vibrator 51 and comprises a flat plate with a tapering rim 42 which surrounds the bottom of the box 35 and with a funnel 44 which opens into a shoot 45. Connection between the box 35 and rim 42 is through lugs on each with rubber shock absorbers interposed. The vibrator comprises electromagnets which, when energised by alternating current at 50 cycles per second, are attracted intermittently to an armature so that 6,000 vibrations per minute are produced ; if a rectifier is interposed, the vibrations are at 3,000 per minute. The vibrations may also be controlled by varying the frequency and, as regards their amplitude, by adding weights to the magnet. Vibrations of 1,000-1,500 per minute may be produced mechanically by unbalanced weights on oppositely rotating shafts, so arranged that the horizontal components balance each other but full effort is given to the vertical components. A vertical shaft 38 carries a double arm 39 which feeds the material. The width of the shoot 45 is the same as that of the rollers, Fig. 2, but one or more of its walls, e.g. 57, may be pressed inwards, e.g. by a rod 59 operated by a handwheel 60, so that the material, de-aired by the vibration, is pre-compressed on its way to the space 55 between the rollers. The rollers are formed to press e.g. egg-shaped briquettes and comprise robust wheel bodies with shrunk-on rims 63 of wear-resistant material. Rectangular bearing blocks 8, 9, 10 for the shafts of the rollers and gear wheels are held apart by spacer members and shims 31 are inserted to allow for compensation of wear on the roller surfaces, the whole being retained by a wedge 32 which may be constructed to protect against excessive shear forces.
