Abstract

813,648. Electric lighting fittings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 3, 1957 [Sept. 14, 1956], No. 28213/56. Classes 75(2) and 75(4) An electric light fitting especially for street lighting, comprises means for supporting two tubular electric lamps 21 with their axes substantially vertical, one on each side of a central vertical axis, and two sets of light reflecting elements 28 extending the full length of the lamps and disposed one on each side of the plane 29 through the lamp axes, the elements being designed to concentrate the light from at least one of the lamps mainly about two preferred vertical planes 30 inclined at an angle of 80-85 degrees to the plane 29 of the same side of the central axis, each set lying between two boundary planes each parallel to the respective preferred planes and each passing through the axis of one of the lamps. A V-shaped reflector 32 of polished aluminium may be arranged adjacent the central axis so as to redirect light from the lamp opposite the apex of the V towards the elements 28. The fitting comprises a socket fit over the top of a supporting post and bearing a cupshaped portion enclosing the supports for the lower end of the lamps, and forming a base for a frusto-conical globe. The fitting has a central stem 4 carrying the supports for the ends of the lamps. A plate with a dished rim for holding the upper edge of the globe is mounted on the stem 4. Above this plate is a dished member for the operating gear of the lamps closed on the upper side by a reflecting canopy extending beyond the globe and secured in place by a cap at the top of the stem 4.
