Abstract

813,395. Seed sowing machines. WALSH, P. Feb. 2, 1956 [Feb. 5, 1955], No. 3377/56. Class 6(1). A machine for broadcasting seeds comprises tines 27 for tilling the ground, tines 29 which reciprocate laterally for cross-tilling the ground, dispensing means for broadcasting seed and tines 25 for covering the seed. As shown landwheels 22 are mounted on an inner frame which carries a seed hopper 20 and the tines 27, 29 and which is pivoted to an outer frame 39 on which are mounted the tines 25. The seed dispensing means comprises paddle wheels mounted on a horizontal shaft and driven from the landwheels which feed seed through adjustable openings formed by two shutters. The tines 29 are reciprocated by a crank mechanism driven from the landwheels. The rear tines 25 are mounted in two frames each pivoted centrally on a longitudinal axis. The outer frame is raised as shown in Fig. 6 by two hydraulic cylinders and at the same time the tines 27 and 29 are rotated about their shafts to lie clear of the ground, the drive to the paddle wheels and tines 29 is declutched and one of the shutters is moved to close the seed openings. A hinged loading platform 32 is provided.
