Abstract

813,330. Turbines. SOC. RATEAU. April 9, 1957 [April 25, 1956], No. 11528/57. Class 110(3). During starting of a double casing turbine live steam is drawn off before expansion from the supply to the turbine and is led into the space between the casings. A steam turbine comprises internal and external casings 4, 5 defining a space 6 through which live steam can circulate. Live steam is admitted to the turbine through a check valve v and a regulating valve s. Steam is drawn off from between the valves r, s through a pipe t and led to orifices a, a<SP>1</SP> connected to the space G. An automatic valve wand calibrated orifice o are mounted in pipe t. The orifice o regulates the rate at which steam is drawn off and the valve w the duration of the flow. Valve w may be actuated by a timing device or temperature regulating means. When valve w is closed, valve 8 may be opened so that steam may be supplied to freed water heaters.
