Abstract

813,136. Slide valves. ALLEY & MACLELLAN Ltd., and MARTIN, H. A. Aug. 16, 1957 [Aug. 28, 1956], No. 26234/56. Class 135. The two halves 5, 6 of the gate of a parallel slide valve are urged apart by a plurality of disc springs or frusto-conical spring washers 14. As shown, each of a plurality of pairs of registering recesses 16 arranged on a pitch circle near the periphery of the parts 5, 6 houses a pair of opposed washers 14 mounted on a pillar 11, the spring pressure being transmitted to the part 5 by a distance piece 12 between which and the washers 14 adjustment shims 13 are fitted. More than one pair of washers may be arranged together, either with adjacent washers facing opposite ways, or with a plurality of nested washers opposing an equal number of similarly arranged washers. The parts 5, 6 are fitted with seating rings 7, 8 for co-operation with rings 3, 4 in the valve body and are held in register with each other by a sleeve 19 accommodated in circular pockets 15.
