812,760. Sintering machines. HEAD, WRIGHTSON & CO. Ltd., and UNITED STEEL CO'S Ltd. May 8, 1957 [May 8, 1956], No. 14315/56. Class 82(1) A forced draught sintering machine having moving pallets P and windboxes H has spring-loaded retractable bars 1, fitted into longitudinal slots 2 of the pallet, which bear on the machined surfaces M of the windbox to provide a gastight seal between the pallet and windbox. Studs (not shown) fixed to the sides of groove 2 pass through vertical slots in each end of the sealing bars 1 to prevent movement of the bars in a horizontal direction with respect to the pallet P but allowing a limited vertical movement. The pallets are supported on rollers R running on upper rails E and on lower rails L when the pallets are inverted. Guard rails 20 are attached by brackets 21 to the uprights A and guard plate 22 prevents any spillage from the upper pallets reaching grooves 2 and jamming the sealing bars 1 of the inverted pallets. The traling end or both ends of each pallet are also fitted with cover plates to prevent ingress of dirt to the slots.
