Abstract
812,649. Clutches. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Dec. 28, 1956 [Dec. 28, 1955], No. 39521/56. Addition to 801,559, [Group XL (b)]. Class 80 (2). A modification of the invention in the parent Specification consists in providing between the clutch plate 2 and the driven shaft 7, instead of a slipping friction coupling and a sprag-type one-way clutch, a one-way clutch of the coiled band or cable type 18. The ends of the cable or band 18 are anchored to the plate 2 by a pin 19 and a spring 20 and the coils co-operate with a drum 17 secured to the driven shaft 7. The direction of winding of the cable or band 18 is such that in the normal forward drive from the driving shaft 1 to the driver 2 no drive is transmitted thereby but when the driven shaft tends to drive the driving shaft 1 the coils are tightened on the drum 17 to effect a drive. The arc enveloped by the coils and the tension of spring 20 is calculated to transmit a torque slightly greater than the maximum resistant torque of the engine and less than a limiting value which might damage the transmission.
