Abstract

N - Acetyl - 41 - benzoylacetamido - sulphanilanilide is prepared by refluxing ethylbenzoylacetate with p-nitroaniline in xylene and pyridine, separating the resulting nitro compound and reducing it to the amino compound by hydrogenation under pressure, and reacting the a - benzoyl - 4 - aminoacetanilide produced with p-acetamido-benzenesulphonyl chloride. 41 - Benzoylacetamido - N - caproylsulphanilanilide is prepared by adding caproyl chloride to aniline suspended in pyridine, to give caproylanilide, and treating this with chlorosulphonic acid below 20 DEG C. to give p-caproylaminobenzene-sulphonyl chloride. This is then added to p-amino-a -benzoylacetanilide below 10 DEG C. to give the required product.
