Abstract

2-Thio-4,5-diphenyloxazoline is prepared by adding hydrochloric acid to a solution of potassium thiocyanate in ethanol, filtering off the potassium chloride, and refluxing the filtrate with bezoin. Other 2-thio-4,5-disubstituted-oxazolines are prepared by using, instead of benzoin, p-methoxy-benzoin, acetoin or butyroin and refluxing this in solution in a mixture of potassium thiocyanate and concentrated hydrochloric acid. By using a -hydroxy-cyclohexanone in this method instead of benzoin, 2-thio-tetrahydrobenzoxazoline is obtained.
