Abstract
811,664. Crank-shafts. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. Aug. 28. 1957 [July 7, 1956], No. 2111.6/56. Class 80 (2). A crank-shaft, for an internal combustion. engine, comprises two shaft portions 6, 7 having secured thereto two die-cast crank discs 10, 11 connected by a pin 15 or liner 12 about which a connecting rod 13 is free to rotate. The crank-pin 15 may lie within the liner 12 and the discs 10, 11 may be cast on to the shaft portion 6, 7 which may be knurled or otherwise roughened to provide grip. The disc may, alternatively be pressed on to the shaft ends and may have cast-in counterweights 16, 17. The discs and/or the connecting rod may be of light alloy or of a zinc based material.
