Abstract
811,332. Making electric capacitors. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Feb. 19, 1957 [Feb. 21, 1956], No. 5330/56. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXXVI] A method of making a roll-type capacitor using thermo plastic dielectric strips involves attaching to each electrode at least one metal tab to which the terminal conductors are soldered after the ends of the capacitor have been sprayed with metal. The capacitor is made by winding up two foil strips with strips of dielectric material, which may be polystyrene, so that an edge of one foil extends beyond the dielectric in one direction and an edge of the other foil extends beyond the dielectric in the other direction. The dielectric strip can be wider than the foil strip or the same width. There is attached to each foil at least one tab of a thin solderable metal such as copper, tin or tinned copper foil. When wound the capacitor may be shrunk by heat treatment, the tab may be bent over against the end face and the end sprayed with a low melting point metal such as solder. The capacitor may then be impregnated. Metal spraying ensures short connections between electrodes and tab and a secure anchorage for the terminals.
