Abstract

810,058. Controllers. BROWN BOVERI & CIE A.G. Aug. 1, 1956 [Aug. 1, 1955], No. 23788/56. Class 38 (3). Relates to an arrangement in electric locomotives for regulating the electro-pneumatic drive of a multi-contact, switch in accordance with the adjustment of a master controller. The hand wheel of the master controller may be moved from neutral to a desired position in which it is held by a notching device 4, a contact drum 8 being moved through a spring coupling 5, 6, 7. Initially, the contact drum advances by only one step and is then stopped by a member 9 engaging a claw 10 which is held fast by a locking wheel 12a. In this position, a line 51 is energized and control valve 25 of air motor 20 is actuated so that the shaft 36 of the multi-contact switch is driven through one step, whereupon conductor 55 is energized through auxiliary switch 17 and locking magnet 15 is actuated. Under the action of cam 14a, lever 13a releases wheel 12a and the control drum is advanced one further step, by means of the tensioned spring 6, until it is stopped by lever 13b engaging wheel 12b. In the new position, line 52 is energized so that the air motor is advanced to its second step. The magnet 15 is de-energized and releases the control drum 8 for a further step. This cycle is repeated until the position pre-selected by means of the hand wheel is reached and the spring 6 exerts no further torque. The claw 10 returns to a position of equilibrium, and the wheels 12a, 12b are suitably positioned when further movement of the multi-contact switch is desired. The wheel 1.2 a may carry a scale for indicating the switching-step which has been reached. A relay may be provided which responds, when the current passing through its coil reaches a given value, to connect the control valves of the air motor to a contact drum driven by the shaft 36. This causes the air motor to be halted until the current falls to an acceptable value, Fig. 2 (not shown). A number of multiple-contact switches may be regulated from a single master controller, in which case the retraction spring 6 for the locking magnet 15 is replaced by another magnet having intermittent energization.
