Abstract
809,905. Air conditioning. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Oct. 30, 1956 [Jan. 13, 1956(3)], No. 33141/56. Class 137 A room unit 2 for use with an air conditioning system for multi-room buildings where a supply of conditioned air from a central station located, e.g. in the basement of a building, is supplied at high velocity through narrow pipes to induction type room units placed in the rooms being conditioned, comprises a base unit 3, a heat exchange member 4, and a housing 5 having its lower face open to provide one inlet 6 for induced room air, and an outlet grille 7 in its upper face. The base unit 3, comprising a plenum chamber 10 formed of 'a back sheet 20, a wrapper 21, and end panels 22, is divided by a plate 13 into an upper chamber 11 having openings in its sides for connection to the source of conditioned primary air and which communicates through an opening 14 in the plate 13 with a lower constant pressure chamber 12 which has a number of discharge nozzles 23. If desired a filter unit 40 may be connected beneath the heat exchanger 4 which is provided with a drip tray 27, 28. The outer wall 21<SP>1</SP> of the plenum chamber 10 co-operates with a cover plate 30 and a removable front plate 31 of the housing 5 to form a diffuser channel which ensures good mixing of the primary conditioned air and the induced room air before it is delivered to the room through the opening 7. The inner walls of the plenum 10 are covered by a sound absorbing material, the cover plate 30 and the base unit 3 being provided respectively with hooks 34, 29 for attachment to a fixing strip, not shown, along an adjacent wall. In a modification, Fig. 6, not shown, the heat exchanger 4 is arranged to one side of the plenum chamber 10, the inlet opening for room air being provided in the adjacent side wall of the housing. In both embodiments the base unit may be furred in, instead of being encased in a housing 5. Specifications 641,712, 809,903 and 809,904 are referred to.
