Abstract
809,121. Lattice girders etc.; bridges. STOREY (ENGINEERS) Ltd., T. July 21, 1955 [May 17, 1954], No. 14312/54. Classes 20(1) and 20(2) A lattice girder comprises V-shaped units 15 connected together at the free ends or at both the free ends and the apices to form a lattice web and chords 13 consisting of I-section members connected end, to end. The V-shaped units consist of two I-section joists 16, Fig. 3, connected by a pair of gussets 17. The ends of the V-shaped units are connected by plates 18 and bolts and the apices are connected by plates 20, Fig. 1 and bolts. The I-section members 22, Fig. 5 forming the chords 13 are joined end to end by pairs of off-set plates 23 welded between the flanges. The end of the girder is closed by posts 19 formed of members 22 and I-section members 28 welded to chords 13. A bridge is constructed of a number of these girders 10, Fig 2, secured end to end, a number of girders thus formed are secured side by side by short T-irons 21 to form a main girder 11 at each side. Transom beams 12, 12a are bolted on top of the upper and lower chords. Footwalks 35 are carried by outriggers on the lower transom beams. The members 22 may be omitted if a shallow girder is being made up with only two rows of V-shaped units.
