808,727. Brake adjustment devices. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Aug. 1, 1956 [Aug. 20, 1955], No. 24047/55. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] An automatic adjustment mechanism for a brake, particularly of the disc type, comprises a wire element 31 having a loop 28 formed midway of its length, the two free ends 29 and 30 then being extended in parallel with one another and bent towards each other to form a second loop 32 of the same radius as loop 28. The loop 28 is disposed so as to project through a passage 36 in pressure plate 6 and is secured over an anchor pin 41 by a spring clip 44. The loop 32 is passed round a cylindrical member 46 located in a sleeve 17, movement of which compresses spring 16. If, when the brake is applied, the pressure plate 6 moves, due to wear of the friction surfaces, a greater distance than that between the flange 21 on sleeve 17 and the end face of sleeve 11, the element 31 becomes extended by movements of pins 41 and 46 away from one another so that the ends 29a and 30a of the free end of the spring are moved in opposite directions so that on release of the brake, a new position of the pressure plate 6 is established. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the free ends 107 of the wire element 90, after being turned over pins 103, extend radially. The wire element may be incorporated within a fluid pressure piston and cylinder actuator device and is intended primarily for aircraft brake systems, where there may be a residual pressure as high as 50 p.s.i. Specification 688,382 is referred to.
