Abstract
778,766. Brake adjustment devices. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Jan. 30, 1956 [Aug. 24, 1955], No. 2879/56. Class 103 (1). An automatic adjustment device for a hydraulic brake actuator for a disc brake has an auxiliary piston 24 which, when the brake is applied, moves with pin 19 until spring 29 is compressed, the pin 19 then being moved on past a friction grip means 30. On release of the brake the grip means 30 allows the pin 19 and brake pad 11 to move back only to the maximum extent that the piston 24 may be moved back by spring 29. The pressure of fluid behind the main piston 12 also acts behind auxiliary piston 24 so that when the hydraulic pressure is of the order of 300 p.s.i. so that flexure of the housing 2 may take place, the piston 24 will remain in its right-hand position until the pressure has dropped below 300 p.s.i. and the caliper has straightened out.
