909,439. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. March 2, 1959 [March 21, 1958], No. 9046/58. Class 103 (1). A disc brake has a rotatable disc 1 and a pair of non-rotatable, diametrically - opposed brake applying mechanisms, the free ends 9a, 10a of two bell-crank levers 9, 10 being linked together by a device including a spring 21 to force the levers in a direction to apply the brake and a fluid pressureoperated mechanism 17- 19 to force the levers in the opposite direction to disengage the brake. The free ends of pressure plates 3, 5 and 4, 6 are connected by pins 8 pivoted to a pin 8b in the bifurcated end of levers 9, 10, the bifurcated ends being pivoted at 11a to ears 11 on plates 3, 4. Lever end 9a is pivoted to a spacer 14 between plates 13 and lever end 10a, pivoted to a block 20 attached by rod 19 to piston 18 sliding in a block 17, the spring 21 acting between block 20 and a second spacer 14 to force the levers 9, 10 toward each other to apply the brake, which is released by fluid pressure introduced to block 17. The rate of the spring 21 can be varied by adjusting screw 15 in spacer 14, and the clearance of the pads adjusted by screws 23 in a non-rotatable portion 2. Specification 889,023 is referred to.
