Abstract
808,335. Stamping. OPEL A.G., A. July 19, 1957 [July 27, 1956], No. 22906/57. Class 83(4). A press for deep-drawing metal sheets comprises a lower matrix having a sheet-holder part surrounding a drawing surface, and an upper press element which includes a movable sheet-holder part and a movable die, either the die or the sheet-holder parts having in or adjacent to the region of deepest drawing, corrugations running in the direction of drawing pressure, and which impart to the sheet-metal corresponding furrows which provide a reserve of stock to prevent excessive stressing in the region of deepest drawing. In an embodiment, the lower matrix for forming the wheel casing of a motor vehicle comprises a drawing surface 12 with a sheet-holder part 13 and spring-loaded ejectors 14. Drawing beads 15 are formed in the part 13. Adjacent the region of deep drawing a, b, the slanting surface of the part 13 is provided with converging corrugations 16. The finished wheel casing 18 exhibits a smooth surface which requires no further working, the holding edge 19 being removed by cutting. In another embodiment the deep drawing is effected in two stages. After the first stage two converging furrows 23a, 23b are formed in the drawn sheet and the drawing edge 24 is severed (Fig. 4). In the second stage all that is required is a simple raising operation to remove the furrows.
