807,039. Pipe couplings. MAJOR ALUMINIUM PRODUCTS (B.C.) Ltd. Dec. 31, 1956, No. 39664/56. Class 99(1). In a pipe coupling particularly for air lines, a housing 12 receives pipes 10, 11 each having a pair of oppositely extending lugs 17 received in grooves 25 in the housing each groove being closed off by an abutment at one end to limit movement of the lugs in one direction and open at the other, disengagement being prevented by adjustable locking means and the pipes 10, 11 having limiting movement with respect to the housing about axes passing through each of the pairs of lugs and having sealing means to prevent leakage. Each pipe 10, 11 has a reinforcing sleeve 13 at the end inserted into the housing through which screw-threaded shanks 16 of the lugs 17 are passed to be engaged by nuts 18. The axes formed by the lugs 17 on the pipes 10, 11 are transverse to each other. The housing 12 may be formed with a tapped outlet and internal shoulders 21b, 21c which are of different radial heights limit the movement of the pipe and as shown permit greater movement of each pipe about an axis passing through the lugs than at right angles thereto. Instead of having discontinuity between the higher and lower portions, the internal surface may be elliptically shaped. Recesses 22 are formed within the housing to receive V-shaped sealing gaskets 23 which seals the pipe and housing against outward pressure but permits movement. The housing 12 has extensions 24 which receive lugs 17 in arcuate grooves 25 which are located oppositely. The locking means is provided in one of the grooves 25 of each pair of oppositely disposed grooves and comprises a bolt 29 which when tightened blocks the groove so that the lug contained cannot disengage. The bolt 29 is spaced from the abutment preferably at a right angle so that the pipes can be rotated by a limited amount, the lugs remaining in the grooves. In a modification, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) the housing is curved and is in the form of an elbow coupling.
