Abstract

806,984. Nuclear reactors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 11, 1957 [July 16, 1956], No. 22004 /56. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). In a nuclear reactor of the type in which the coolant fluid is contained under pressure in a shell, charging is effected through tubes passing through the shell and shielding. Each tube is fitted with a sealing plug which is maintained in position against the thrust of the pressurized coolant by a number of latch members which are mounted in the upper surface of the plug and which engage the inner surface of the tube. The plug consists of a cylindrical metal container filled with concrete and rubber rings attached to the container form a seal with the tube inner surface. Removal of the plug is effected by a tool which simultaneously grips the plug and releases the latches. With the plug in position, the outer end of the tube is closed by a cover plate.
