Abstract
806,954. Insulating bushings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. Nov. 15, 1957 [Nov. 30, 1956], No. 36701/56. Addition to 793,974. Class 36. A bushing assembly comprises a conductor 1 embedded in insulation 9 moulded or cast in two parts 4, 8 around a yieldable layer 3 applied to the conductor, the part 4 having an intermediate portion of its outer surface metallized to provide a stress-distribution shield 6, and the part 8 surrounding the part 4 to embed the shield 6 and the inner portion of a mounting member 5 which is electrically connected to the shield. The yieldable layer 3 may be insulating and have a conductive coating as described in the parent Specification, or conductive as described in Specification 806,955 and may be discontinuous as described in Specification 806,956. The insulation 9 may comprise an epoxy resin. After formation of the layer 4, which may embed the inner edge of the member 5, it is partially cured and metallized at 6. The layer 8 is applied thereover and the whole cured to form a substantially homogeneous bushing.
