Abstract

806,605. Endless belt conveyers. KIDD, F., and KIDD, T. D. Oct. 19, 1956 [Oct. 20, 1955], No. 30009/55. Class 78 (1). The shaft 18 of a set of troughing rollers consists of a resilient bar or tube preformed to bowed configuration the ends of which extend slidably through an aperture formed diametrically in a cylindrical trunnion member 20 mounted in a yoke 22. Each end 19 is connected rigidly to a sleeve 21 on the outer end of which is threaded a nut 24. An adjustable compression spring 23 is placed between it and the recessed outer side of the trunnion. Each roller element 25 consists of sheets 26 of soft rubber, or a polyvinyl chloride plastic, which are secured together by rivets 27 passed through metal end-plates 28. The components may also be adhesively bonded. Each element is bored centrally to receive a bearing sleeve 29 of hard rubber or nylon which is prevented from moving longitudinally by a rib 30. This sleeve may be bonded to the sheets 26 and its ends may be flared so that it engages with the shaft near its centre only. Flexible dustexcluding sleeves 32 extend from each element 25 to the next and end caps 33 seal the gap between each sleeve 21 and the adjacent sleeve 29. Each sleeve 32 may be composed of two concentric tubular members which are spaced apart and between the end portions of which extends an annular flange provided at each end of the sleeve 29. In a modification, Fig. 5, each bearing sleeve is in two parts 38, each of which has a flange 39 at one end. In another modification, Fig. 6, a metal ferrule 40 is placed between the sheets 26 and the sleeve 29. The flanged ends of the ferrule may have inwardlyextending projections which prevent longitudinal movement of the sleeve, or pins may be passed through the flange for this purpose. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the roller elements 25 are formed of metal or other rigid material and may be bonded to non-metallic bearing sleeves 29. Dust-excluding sleeves 32 extend within recesses 48 at each side of the element. Each end member 49 has a helicallyarranged belt engaging rib 50 for maintaining the belt in central position.
