[Also in Group XXVIII] A device for the pumping and compressing of fluids comprises a tubular cover 1 closed at its ends by pump bodies 10, 11 and distortable diaphragms 40 activated by a liquid contained in the cover and displaced by pistons 75, 76 integral with an armature which is reciprocated against the action of springs 79, 80 under the influence of an alternating magnetic field. The armature is formed by a shuttle 64 which carries permanent magnets 67, 68. (Figs. 1 and 2 are sections at right angles to each other.) A frame 50 (see Group XXVIII) supports the elements 56, 57 of the magnetic circuit. Slots 59, 60 house a coil 62, slots 58, 61 a coil 63, slots 59a, 60a a coil 62a, and slots 58a, 61a a coil 63a, the coils being in series and fed by fixed frequency alternating current.
