805,959. Umbrellas. EICKHORN, K. E., and BREMSHEY, F., [trading as BREMSHEY & CO.]. Dec. 19, 1956 [Jan. 24, 1956], No. 38716/56. Class 134 Telescoping of the ribs during the initial stage of opening a collapsible umbrella comprising telescopic stick and rib parts and main and auxiliary struts, is resisted by a U-shaped leaf spring one arm of which is fixed to a guide sleeve secured to one of the rib parts and the other arm of which presses against the other rib part which slides within the sleeve. In the arrangement shown, one arm of the leaf spring 25 has a bent recess which snaps into engagement with an end portion 27 of a sleeve 18 which is secured to the inner end of the outer rib part 16 and to the main strut 20 by a pin 17. The sleeve 18 may be made of sheet metal or of plastic material. The other arm 28 of the spring 25 presses against the inner rib part 15 which slides in the sleeve 18 to an extent limited by a stop 23. In a modified arrangement, a brake shoe of friction material is fixed to the arm 28.
