Abstract
805,929. Valves; hydraulic jacks. FLICKREEDY CORPORATION. Oct. 25,1956 [Dec. 16, 1955], No. 32538/56. Classes 69 (2) and 135. A cylinder 4 has a head 6 at each end incorporating a port 12 through which fluid is admitted to, and exhausted from, either side of a piston 10 with cup seals 11; tie-rods 8 interconnect the heads 6. The piston is provided with a plunger 13 that enters a portion 14 of the port 12 to retard the piston towards the end of its stroke and in order to obtain a gradual and adjustable retardation a by-pass passage 15, 16 is located between the cylinder and the port 12 beyond the furthest protrusion of the plunger 13. The passage 15, 16 is formed with a seat 17, with which seat co-operates a threaded needle valve 18 having an hexagonal socket for adjustment purposes; the valve is disposed in a ring- nut 21 having tool sockets which supports a sealing ring 24 of tetrafluoroethylene, with an internal diameter equal to the pitch diameter of the internal threads of the nut 21; leakage is prevented by tightening the latter, so expanding the ring 24 into more intimate contact with the valve 18 threads. The ring and nut also act as a lock-nut but the valve may be adjusted directly without moving any other element. A similar valve, not shown, is positioned at the other end of the cylinder.
