Abstract

1,108,542. Screw-and-nut gearing. FAIREY CO. Ltd. 16 Dec., 1964 [17 Sept., 1963], No. 36642/63. Addition to 914,165. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division B3] In a leadscrew mechanism as claimed in Specification 914,165, a nut 11 carries at each end of its threaded bore a resilient sealing washer 30, 37 having a central aperture whose circumferential surface is formed with an internal screwthread comprising at least one complete turn which is in threaded sealing engagement with the thread of a leadscrew 10. Shallow recesses cut in three areas distributed circumferentially around each of four successive convolutions of the nut thread 14 are fed with oil supplied through bores 15, three axially extending bores 16, throttling restrictors 17 and bores 24. Three sets of radial holes 45 in the nut thread 14, radial passages 47,and inclined passages 40, 43 constitute drainage passageways. In a modification, a nut body 11A is of one-piece form and supply restictors are incorporated in a separate restrictor block 50, as described in Specification 1,106,389. The supply pressures may be tested by means of a pressure gauge applied to test nipples 63. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 915,275.
