Abstract
805,854. Photographic silver salt diffusion process. AGFA A. G. Aug. 30, 1955 [Aug. 30, 1954; July 2, 1955], No. 24858/55. Class 98(2) Several positives are made from one negative by exposing a silver halide emulsion layer, developing in presence of silver halide solvent, contacting it with a lightinsensitive transfer layer using only sufficient silver halide solvent to produce a legible image therein, separating the negative layer and contacting it with a further trasfer layer in the presence of developing solution and additional silver halide solvent, if desired repeating this cycle. Normally the silver halide solvent is present in the transfer layer and hypo, hexamethylene tetramine and particularly barium thiosulphate are quoted as such, but the solvent action of sodium sulphite is referred to also. Ten examples mostly using developing substances in both the silver halide emulsion layer and the developing solution detail the process, thus in Example 1 a silver chloride layer containing benzotriazole, mercapto benzthiazole, hydroquinone, potassium metabisulphite and formalin is exposed and wetted along with a transfer layer coated with barium thiosulphate, hypo, colloidal silver sulphide and formalin in gelatine solution, both layers having paper supports, in developing solution containing caustic soda, sodium sulphite, hydroquinone, metol and potassium bromide, the layers are pressed together by rollers, separated, and the negative layer is applied similarly to a second and then a third of the transfer layers. Guanidine salts and various other adjuncts as used in the diffusion process are mentioned in other examples.
