Abstract

805,423. Door and window sills. BANKS, Ltd., W. P. May 16, 1956 [March 15, 1956], No. 8107/56. Class 20(3) A door or window sill comprises in one unitary structure of precast concrete or other like material a block 1 having a stepped upper surface including a relatively long flat portion 2 constituting a ledge or shelf to be positioned inside the building, an intermediate relatively short flat portion 3 at a lower level than the portion 2 adapted for the seating of the window or door frame, and a relatively long downwardly and outwardly sloping flat portion 4 at a lower level than the portion 3 and constituting the drip-ledge. The under surface of the block 1 is substantially flat except for a drip groove or recess 5 located near the outer end of the drip ledge 4 and a further drip groove or recess 6 may be provided at about the position where the outer wall of the building will engage the block. The exposed surfaces of the block may be treated to simulate stone or tiles on the drip ledge 4 and terrazzo or other finish for the inner ledge 2. When precast in concrete, the ingredients may be fed into a mould which is vibrated, different mixtures being used as necessary to give different colours and surfaces.
