Abstract

805,305. Roller mills. BONSER, A. Nov. 19, 1956 [Nov. 22, 1955], No. 33432/55. Class 59 [Also in Group IX] A pair of burr - crushing rollers are rotatably mounted about parallel axes, one roller 11 being movable towards and away from the other roller 10, and pressure is applied to the shaft extensions 13 of roller 11, at position between the ends of the roller and the ends of the shaft extension, in a radial direction at an angle of not more than 90 degrees to the plane containing the roller axes but at opposite sides of the plane at opposite ends of the roller. As shown, the roller axes are in a vertical plane and pressure is applied by hydraulic cylinders 23, 24 through rods 21, 22 to pressure bearings 19, 20. Rods 21, 22 are adjustably inclined to the vertical so as to apply to roller 11 a vertical loading, and also a horizontal couple which tends to slightly twist the roller so that pressure transmitted between the rollers is progressively relieved towards the ends of the rollers; this pressure relief is arranged to balance the pressure increase towards the roller ends due to roller bending. The rollers may be loaded vertically by sepa ate means applied to bearings carrying the upper roller shaft; rods 21, 22 may then be inclined as shown, or alternatively horizontal.
