805,215. Plate type heat exchangers. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. Jan. 28, 1957 [Jan. 30, 1956], No. 3032/57. Class 64(3) Relates to a heat exchanger in which the heat exchanging media, one of which is at a higher pressure than the other, flow in counter-flow or in cross-flow relationship between spaced plates 10-14, and wherein corrugated sheet metal elements connected to the plates, are so disposed between the plates as to form ducts extending in the direction of fluid flow between adjacent plates, the said elements having interruptions in the direction of fluid flow, at least in the region not bearing against the said plates. According to the invention, the corrugations of the sheet metal elements 17, 18 providing ducts for the medium of lower pressure have parts of rectilinear section extending from plate to plate, and the corrugations of the sheet metal elements 15, 16 providing ducts for the medium of higher pressure have substantially S-section parts extending from plate to plate. This arrangement it is stated permits slight changes in the distance between adjacent plates due to the differences in fluid pressure without causing the corrugated members to become detached from the plates. Those portions of a duct which are separated from one another by the interruptions in the duct walls may be offset from one another transversely to the direction of fluid flow.
