Abstract
Composite alloy material, suitable for ornamental metal work or such articles as automobile bumpers and vehicle hub caps, comprises a core or backing having a composition Mg 2-10 per cent Be 0.0005-0.5 per cent Al the balance which is combined by hot-rolling with a plating having a composition within the same range, or with aluminium, or with an aluminium alloy containing not more than 2 per cent of magnesium but no beryllium. Where the article is to be given a finishing operation by grinding, polishing and anodizing, the plating should have a thickness of at least 0.2 m.m. at all areas to be ground.
