[Also in Group IX] A paper tube having a circumferential weakening may be formed by wrapping on a mandrel m a sheet 3 of paper cut for a substantial length along a median line 4. Alternatively, the weakening or weakenings may be formed in an uncut paper tube by a blunt tool or straight or rotary blade prevented from cutting through the tube by a stop against which the tool abuts. The tube may then be broken at the weakened locations into smaller tubes.
