Abstract
Organic sulphur compounds are removed from fuel gases by passing them over a catalyst consisting of copper chromite on alumina at a temperature of between 250 DEG and 270 DEG C. at a space velocity of between 250 and 350, the H2S formed being removed by passing the gases over iron oxide. The catalyst is regenerated by passing oxygen through the bed at a space velocity of 200 for one hour at 200 DEG C. The catalyst is prepared by mixing solutions of copper sulphate and sodium dichromate, slowly adding ammonia to the mixture when cold to form a precipitate, filtering and drying the precipitate, powdering it and mixing it intimately with alumina, and moistening and pelleting the resulting mixture.
