Abstract
803,016. Soldering irons. SAXBY, A. G. May 16, 1956 [Feb. 16, 1955], No. 4716/55. Class 83 (4). In a soldering iron bit having a rod-like body, a part 10 of commercial mild steel is provided with the working face 11 and a part 13 of aluminium or aluminium alloy of higher heat conductivity than the first part is secured in contact with the first part to extend away therefrom towards the end of the body remote from the face 11. The part 10 having a flat end surface 11 has a stem 12 which may be knurled extending therefrom and a sleeve 13 of " Duralumin " (Registered Trade Mark) secured about the stem. The curved surface 14 on the end part 10 is hard chromium-plated to prevent solder flow along the bit. The bit may be detachably secured to an electric soldering iron. According to the Provisional Specification, the bit is coated with silver chloride and potassium bitartrate in cellulose lacquer and is heated to 200‹ C. to provide a coating preventing solder flow along the bit.
